Benefits and Help Available to All

The U.S. government has ordered that aid be implemented to protect the majority of the population. While it's clear that much of the assistance is not available to undocumented immigrants, some universal programs might help you regardless of your status.

In this article, we explain and list some of the available aids that you might qualify for.

#1 Review the English, https://www.benefits.gov/ or Spanish https://www.benefits.gov/es web pages and answer the questionnaire to see if you are eligible for one or more of the government-sponsored programs.

#2 Penalty Relief/Fee Forgiveness — If you have already incurred surcharges or fines, you can contact that company with which you incurred the penalty and ask for a pardon to have those charges refunded to your account.

#3 Deferred Loans — Mortgage, auto loans or personal loans can be stopped. Call that credit, loan, etc. company. We've seen that they give 2 months for relief. Payments do not disappear; however, debt is delayed to provide you with peace of mind and stability.

#4 Loan Modification — some loan or credit companies are offering to reduce their interest rates or extend the loan time of customers affected by COVID-19. Call and ask.

#5 The government stated that there would be no evictions for any payment at this time of emergency.

#6 The tax agency (IRS) is implementing a stimulus and tax help plan for individuals. Be attentive to find out if you qualify automatically or need to present a document. You can review the information in Spanish [volante aca] and the link https://www.irs.gov/es/newsroom/economic-impact-payments-what-you-need-to-know  or in English [flyer here] and the link https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/economic-impact-payments-what-you-need-to-know.

#7. Health Insurance Protection — Review the following information in Spanish [volante aca] and in English [flyer here] to qualify for a Special Health Insurance enrollment program. This program would help you maintain your insurance if it lapsed.

We hope that this information that we gather with great affection will be useful to you and that everyone will be well, safe, and in good health.

In God we trust,

The U.S. Immigration Assistance Team.
